About

My name is Bruce Cannon, and I am a licensed professional counselor in the state of Michigan. I obtained my MA in Counseling Psychology from Moody Theological Seminary and previously earned a BS in Business Administration and a Master of Divinity. I am married and we have two adult sons. My life and work have been shaped by my experiences as a pastor in California, life in cross-cultural ministry in Eastern Europe, and over 10 years based in Michigan investing in the holistic growth and well-being of cross-cultural workers around the world. I have experience working with couples, families, and adult individuals often involving struggles with depression, anxiety, or relational distress. I have completed Level 1 and Level 2 Gottman Methods Couples Training. I utilize a faith-based, integrative psychodynamic approach to counseling, often blending elements of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotion Focused Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I’m passionate about helping people clarify and embrace their true identity and personal values and purpose in the midst of life’s challenging situations. Why is my practice called Streamside Counseling? Jeremiah 17:8 describes a powerful image of individuals becoming like trees growing beside a stream with roots reaching down to the water so that no matter what difficulty is faced they can face it without being overwhelmed by fear and can still find a way to thrive. This place beside the stream is also a place of refuge, reflection, refreshment and recovery. My goal is that this is what you will experience at Streamside!
